Session 3 – Reading Buildings – Durham Cathedral

Chris Cotton kindly gave us a very in depth tour of Durham Cathedral and in particular, the open treasure project last week. The Cathedral tells a romantic tale of a Romanesque style architecture elements of which changed over the years. He explained to us the historic influences on the Cathedral and what decisions for the repairs, restoration and retrofit which influenced by it’s history. We all thoroughly enjoyed the visit and it helped us to gain a better understanding of reading buildings.
